Snow ….. why is it a big problem in the UK?
February 4, 2012 in Blog
Wooohooo it’s finally snowed. we missed it all last year as we were in Australia so it’s nice to see it. Although it wasn’t fun spending 2 hours driving back from the football, a journey that normally takes us 35 mins took us 2 hours! By the time we did get home my bladder was on overtime!
During the drive back it was really interesting to see the cars that were getting stuck ………… most were Mercedes!!
I’ve come down with a stinking cold & the drive back with sneezing, coughing & needing the loo was interesting!
Crunchie loves the snow so I said i’d take her for a walk whilst Ian sorted her tea out …………… off we shot down the road her running me trying to not fall over!! I wore my new wellie boots & totally loved them, they are nice & fleecy lined & stylish.

See aren’t they nice? Gotta love Groupon deals!!
This a free plug for Clifford James click here to see them, they are on offer!!
This was the my car after a couple of hours of snow :-
& since then it’s not stopped!
My back garden looked lovely all nice & pristine …………… well that was until we got back from our walk & Crunchie ran outside & totally trashed it! There was snow flying everywhere! I was trying to clear a bit of a path to make it easier to go & clear a certain dog’s messages up! Not that there’s any yet! But all she wanted to do was play with the broom whilst I was brushing it away!!
Pain in the neck springs to mind! Although I was struggling to do anything for laughing at her being so daft!
This picture was taken 2 years ago when she 1st encountered snow :-
As you can see she LOVES the snow!!! ……………………
Ok had to take a break then as she wanted to go back outside again! She’s like a child, she goes & plays in it for 10 mins, comes in to warm up for 10 mins & then wants to go back out again, earlier I started to feel like a yoyo!!
A friend on facebook wrote this little ditty earlier :-
Put yer left paw in,take you left paw out,put your left paw in and shake it all about!!!
you do the crunchie crunchie and turn yourself a nuts, thats what its all about, lol
Thanks Rob that made us chuckle!
So the big question ……………
Why the hell does the UK grind to a halt with a few inches of snow?
We’d been warned this was coming & they just about got it right to the hour yet still the roads are in such a bad state & the traffic was ridiculous. The stopped buses early which caused massive problems.
Whilst out walking the snow plough did come whizzing up the main road at the bottom of our road but how effective it was I’ve got no idea!
My answer to the above question is that we don’t get enough snow for most people to actually know how to drive in the snow, people panic, they don’t know how best to get up a hill safely, we had 1 idiot who even overtook us & the car in front cos we obviously weren’t going fast enough for him, it was a narrow road & just round the bend the road opened up to 3 lanes so he didn’t have to wait for too long but nope he barged past at speed! 1 word PRAT!
How do we educate people on how to drive in the snow?
Do we include some form of skinpan training before they can pass their test?
I really don’t know but we need to do something!
Shopping this morning was also fun, yep we’d had the warning’s but for goodness sake is there any need for panic buying? 1 couple had about 8 4ltr cartons of milk, a dozen loaves of bread & loo rolls falling off their trolley, I did overhear them saying to someone else they were stocking up! Myself & another lady just looked at each other & laughed, I did a normal shop, if we run out we run out! There is enough food in the freezer to make meals to last for probably 2 weeks!!!
We’ve had about 4-5 inches in total but having just been out in it again it was starting to rain so a lot will have probably gone by the morning & the roads will be running ok by Monday morning when everyone goes back to work, otherwise that will be fun!!
