I feel like I should be at confession & should be given some sort of punishment for what i’m about to admit!

It’s nearly 4 years since I actually had my hair cut properly!

How bad is that??

As most of you know i’m a mobile hairdresser but sadly my hair get’s neglected, but as always with people in most trades, you & your family are usually the last people to get anything done!

With my holiday looming I decided it was time to get the naff ends cut off & I have to say i’m getting fed up of painting my roots dark! Lol

I’ve had a few colour disasters & it’s badly damaged, split & worse than any of that it’s naturally curly!

I’ve always wanted straight hair but sadly even with the help of straighteners is doesn’t last long even with no humidity or rain!

I took the plunge & booked my hair in to a new to me salon (there was an internet offer on for  cut price (excuse the pun!) highlights, cut & finish.

It didn’t start well when I arrived & was told that I didn’t have an appointment & they didn’t do the deals on a Tuesday & only the girls did the deals. Now that’s odd as she told me she’d booked me in with the manager as he had experience with curly hair. Ok I see what was going on, although they advertised a large saving, in reality they only wanted the junior stylists to do the deal customers as they didn’t lose as much money on them! This wasn’t in the t&c’s!

Anyway he finally “found” my appointment & agreed he’d missed it in the book …………. he was actually just about to leave for the day as he thought he’d finished. Maybe if i’d arrived a few minutes later i’d have missed him! Luckily I was 15mins early! Bad luck for him though!

The atmosphere was a little frosty to start with & was a little stroppy with me, but still went through the normal routine for a new customer. It was funny being on the other side!
Now the big question ………….. do I tell him i’m a hairdresser & had been doing the job longer than he had but not by much?! Nope I wasn’t forthcoming with this information, but then again he didn’t ask me what I did.

I know my hair colour was rough but he was almost patronising & talking to me like I was a 2 year old. I gave enough clues to him that I actually knew what he was talking about & the damage that had been caused to my hair & that with going on holiday it would cause more problems & lighten it up even more & cause more damage.

To give him his due he did explain that he’d need to use different strengths of bleach to lighten the different areas.

Finally after over an hour I had a head full of meche packets & then just had to wait. I was given the obligatory magazine which was in date! But wished i’d taken my kindle with me, but hey ho never mind.

With it being just me & him in the salon the kept getting disturbed with the phone & people coming in, especially when it was time to rinse the bleach off.

He actually shampooed my hair 4 times, yes 4 times! The final shampooed he was excited about as it was a purple shampoo that removes yellowness from the hair.

Although telling him to cut a few inches off the bottom & about 4 inches off my layers he “tided” the ends & took about an inch off the layers. I know with curly hair you are very cautious about how much you take off when it’s wet as it springs up but he was overly cautious!

He dried it & that’s when I remembered why I didn’t like having my hair done by other people as they seem to think the scalp has no feelings! If he’d have clipped the sections out of the way he would have saved a lot of tangles he actually caused!!

He used a few different products prior to blow drying & although they advertise a certain oil, he actually used another & promoted that rather than the other, maybe he does like the 1 he used but he used 4 times the amount of the that, I guess paying half the price isn’t worth the extra quantity needed.

He did rave about some new straighteners that he had got from a company called Diva & they heat up to 230 degrees. They could be dangerous in the wrong hands & do some serious hair burn if your not careful, you can alter the temperature but the high heat works well on my hair & they did a good job.

Eventually after 3 hours I was finished & was now running late for my appointment I had got booked! A quick call to her explaining & a fast drive, I arrived 20mins late!

My hair looks nice but nothing special & i’m actually glad I didn’t pay the full amount because knowing what I charge & the speed I work at financially it really isn’t viable. Don’t get me wrong i’d love to charge the amount they charge but really couldn’t justify it.

1 thing I’ve noticed from taking the after picture my hair’s not level!!! But as you can see it does actually look healthier.
