Well I hope I’ve changed for the better! And if I’ve not well after reminiscing about the music & some of the films I don’t mind going back there, life was so much simpler, although not totally perfect, but I still love all the music, even if I’m still choking on the hairspray fumes!
I was cough cough 14/15 & at senior school (this is me at 15)
I had BIG hair, shoulder pads were all the rage, Dallas and Dynasty had a lot to answer for! Hairspray sure as hell had a lot to do with killing off the ozone layer. A large can of spray would be emptied within about 4 days and then we’d steal mum’s! I can still actually taste the spray now just thinking about it! Naked flames were banned! I didn’t need to brush my hair between washes, cos it NEVER moved! I had a perfect DA at the back! My hair could’ve with stood a hurricane, there wouldn’t have been a hair out of place!
New Romantic’s fashion was, well let’s say interesting, big belt’s baggy trousers, vest tops with huge over-sized shirts, oh we were the bee’s knee’s!!!! Sometime’s I’m really glad most of this is stored in my memory bank & not in pictures! Also Fame was still in the forefront, leg-warmers, sweat bands & Madonna’s influence with string vest t-shits!
Music was less electric than it is now, again the New Romantic’s ruled, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet’s Album True was released with this amazing song on it.
Elton John, Bananarama, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Fleetwood Mac, Madness, we’re actually sitting watching Glee at the moment & suddenly a secret pleasure of mine came on Abba,my dad loved Abba so I know all the songs, my all time is Thank you for the Music & I’ve just googled it & it turns out it’s from 1983, spooky!!
Culture Club, my all time favourite, I even went to a concert wearing ribbons in my hair!!! I still don’t think my parents understood a guy wearing so much make up!
Films Flashdance, the most amazing film, until Dirty Dancing came out! , Trading Places, Terms of Endearment, Porky’s (risky for the young!)
TV:- Sons & Daughters, the 1st of the influx of aussie soaps. I still have a guilty pleasure watching Neighbours now, but I just put that down to just loving Australia!
I’ve gone through many changes in the last 30 years, 2 marriages, 1 divorce, 2 step kids, 1 step granchild, 1 dog, I’ve lost my mum, my nan, my uncle & various friends. I’ve had lots of up’s and even more down’s.
Our past makes up the person we are today, we can’t change the past but we can make our future better and learn from any mistakes we may have made.
Life 30 years ago was so easy for me, I had nothing to think about, homework was as stressful as it got, ok that seemed a big deal at the time.
Special K, for the first time since 1983, Kellogg’s is changing Special K with a new, more delicious and wholesome recipe & boy has it changed & certainly for the better, I had tried it previously & wasn’t overly keen, it wasn’t a cereal that would be top of my list, but I was sent a box & although quite apprehensive about them I actually & yes I surprised myself & really liked them. They weren’t sweet, they are tasty, it’s hard to describe their flavour other than I really enjoyed them & will be buying them in future.
This is my entry for the BritMums/Special K “How I’ve changed Linky challenge”
Thank you to Special K for giving me a blast from the past, now I’m off to watch Fame & Flashdance so LEAVE ME ALONE ………. Lol
